EUROFEST 2014: organised by Sue Scott and the MFL Department at South Axholme Academy.

50 students in Year 8 have been busily preparing for the Eurofest final for weeks. Eurofest is a joint Modern Foreign Languages and Enterprise project, where students design a product and produce advertising and promotional material to present at a simulated trade fair in French. A panel of judges including members of staff, former students from South Axholme Academy and business people from the local community judge the groups on their language skills, as well as the design of their product and the quality of their stand.

This year, 12 teams competed in 4 different categories: best use of French, best trade stand, best effort and overall winning stand.

The winning team, who won the Eurofest cup and gift vouchers was called ‘La Maison au chocolat’. Their main product included luxury cakes and gâteaux. Other winning products included cupcakes, handmade cosmetics and a rugby game.

Sue said “Their effort and creativity was outstanding” and many of the judges commented on the quality of their work and the standard of French. Pupils said they had really enjoyed the event and that they had gained a lot from the experience.
