A man is in police custody this morning after a taxi was shot at in a Sheffield street.

The man, who is being held on suspicion of firearms offences, was arrested after a gun was fired at a taxi in Margate Drive, Pitsmoor, at around 9.30pm yesterday.

South Yorkshire Police said enquiries are under way to locate the passengers in the taxi at the time of the shooting.

It is not yet known whether anyone was injured in the gun attack.

In a statement, South Yorkshire Police said: "An investigation is under way after reports of a shot being fired towards a taxi last night.

“Officers were called to Margate Drive at around 9.30pm.

“Damage was caused to the vehicle.

“Enquiries are under way to trace the passengers of the vehicle.

“One person has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences.”
