Lord Mayor presents artwork by Luke Horton to Sheffield United in celebration of German twin city Bochum
“This artwork celebrates the special role football plays in bringing people together”
The Lord Mayor of Sheffield presented a specially commissioned artwork by artist Luke Horton to Sheffield United.
The piece celebrates the long-standing friendship between Sheffield and its German twin city Bochum.

Sheffield and Bochum, which have been twinned since 1950, shared a recent civic visit in Germany where Lord Mayor Andrew Sangar presented a version of the artwork at a Blades pre-season fixture.
A second version has now been gifted to Sheffield United in recognition the occasion and the way football can help build friendships between cities and communities.
Councillor Sangar said: "This artwork celebrates the enduring friendship between Sheffield and Bochum and the special role football plays in bringing people together.
“Sheffield and Bochum have shared a close bond for many years. It is important that we continue to celebrate that relationship and the civic, cultural and sporting links that connect our two cities.
“I was delighted to present this piece to Sheffield United and mark an occasion that reflects the strong links between our two cities. I hope the artwork will serve as a lasting reminder of the friendship between Sheffield and Bochum."
The presentation took place at Bramall Lane on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
