They arrived in Bransby Street, Upperthorpe, to carry out a painstaking examination of the street looking for possible forensic evidence after a gun was fired at a house last night, according to shocked residents.

A number of evidence markers have been placed on the street close to the scene of the drive-by shooting.

Details on the nature of the incident under investigation have not yet been released by South Yorkshire Police but residents said shots were fired towards a house on the street late last night.

They said they heard a number of shots.

The two incidents happened on streets on opposite sides of Ruskin Park.

In the knife attack at 1.20am on Tuesday, a 29-year-old man was taken to hospital with 'a number of suspected stab wounds'.

He was in a serious but stable condition yesterday.

Last February, 23-year-old Aseel Al-Essaie was shot dead on nearby Daniel Hill, Upperthorpe.

He was gunned down in his car as he pulled up to attend his twin sister's engagement party.

Last week three men were found guilty of the 'cold blooded murder'.

Matthew Cohen, aged 29, Dale Gordon, 33 and Keil Bryan, 32, were found guilty on a 'joint enterprise' basis after a trial at Sheffield Crown Court.

Cohen admitted that he was driving the car from which the gun was fired but he denied knowing that the attack was planned and he refused to name the killer.

The prosecution case was that Gordon pulled the trigger and that Bryan was in the back of the car but all those involved in the drive-by shooting were jointly responsible.

Cohen, of Clough Wood Road, Oughtibridge; Gordon, of Benty Lane, Crosspool and Bryan, of Brackley Street, Burngreave, are due to be sentenced next week.

James Good, 30, of Ringstead Crescent, Crosspool, is also to be sentenced after pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice over the burning of the car used in the drive-by shooting.
