Firefighters called to tackle flat blaze above Barnsley takeaway

Firefighters have been called to tackle a blaze in a flat above a takeaway in Barnsley.

Crews from Dearne, Adwick-le-street and Edlington fire stations were called to a property above the Chop Suey House takeaway, in Station Road, Thurnscoe, at around 1:40pm today.

Two engines currently remain at the scene however the third has now come away.

South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue said there are no reports of any injuries. 

Four firefighters are wearing breathing apparatus and two hose reels are being used to damped the blaze.

Station Road was closed earlier today, however has since been reopened by police. 

Stagecoach Yorkshire said the 226 bus service, towards Barnsley, is serving Shepherd Lane as normal but the Hanover Street Thurnscoe loop is currently not being served due to the fire.
