Family forced out of home after building work goes wrong raise £10,000 to rebuild
A Sheffield family has raised more than £10,000 to help repair their home after they said building work left it unsafe and uninhabitable.
The family, from Lodge Moor, began building work on September 1, 2025, which was expected to be completed by the end of that month.
While the work was taking place, they travelled to Wales, but say they returned to find serious issues with the property.

Naomi Engelkamp, a mum-of-two, said the house had effectively been left structurally unstable.
“In September 2025, building work on our home went catastrophically wrong. Part of the structure was left unsafe during demolition...leaving our home uninhabitable,” she said.
Since then, the family has been unable to live there and has been staying with friends and relatives.
The family have moved 12 times over the past six months, staying mostly in Sheffield, as well as in Duffield and Wales.
The situation has also made it difficult for Naomi’s husband to commute to work in Sheffield.

Commenting on their online fundraising page, the family said: “We have been displaced for over six months, moving from place to place while trying to make the house safe again.”
The family had been carrying out improvements using savings built up over eight years before the demolition issue arose.
It is claimed the builder they used has since ceased trading.
Naomi said: “We had already paid a large portion of our savings for the work, leaving us with limited funds to carry out the repairs needed to make our home liveable.”
The fundraiser, which has a target of £17,000, aims to cover essential structural work and make the property weatherproof so the family can return home.
Members of the local community have also stepped in to help, organising a clean-up effort where volunteers assisted with clearing debris and filling skips.
The family said: “Our aim is to make the house safe and stable so we can return home as soon as possible. Every contribution brings us closer to that.”
The builder dispute’s the family’s claims.
