A flower business that began beneath an umbrella not too far from Sheffield almost four decades ago was recently named the UK’s People’s Choice Family Business of the Year
This family business has been recognised nationally as the UK’s favourite.
Bunches, which is now being run by the second generation of the family, recently won both the ‘Midlands & Central People’s Choice Family Business of the Year’, as well as the ‘National People’s Choice Family Business of the Year’ at the ‘National Family Business of the Year Awards 2026’.
The awards, organised by Family Business United, are unusual because the winners are decided by public vote rather than a judging panel, meaning customers themselves chose Bunches as their favourite family business in the country.
It is both huge and appreciated recognition on a national level for Bunches which has seen it blossom into one of the UK’s best-known florists.
The success of the family-run business has seen it deliver more than 13-million bouquets from its Mansfield headquarters – a far cry from when it began by dispatching just five postal bouquets during its first week in partnership with the Post Office in 1990.
To this day Bunches continues to stick to the same family values that helped to establish its much-loved reputation, focussing not just on customer service but maintaining commitments to donate at least 10% of its profits to charitable causes – as well as sourcing its flowers from certified sustainable farms.
Whatever it is doing seems to be working as its customer support team is currently rated at a not to be sniffed at 4.9 out of five, and Bunches bus holds an overall 4.7-star rating based on more than 200,000 customer reviews.
