Amey has faced complaints after a record number of potholes appeared this winter

Marie Tidball, MP for Stocksbridge and Penistone, said she raised the “unacceptable state” of roads with Andy Milner, CEO of Amey, when they met in Parliament.

Amey has a £2bn contract to resurface and maintain roads and pick up litter until August 19, 2037.

It has been inundated with complaints after a record number of potholes appeared this winter. Some repairs lasted just days.

Ms Tidball said: “In Parliament this week I met Andy Milner, the CEO of Amey, who are responsible for upgrading and maintaining the condition of Sheffield's roads, including filling and repairing potholes and resurfacing roads.

I raised with Mr Milner the unacceptable state of some of the roads in our Sheffield communities, which have been shared with me by constituents.”

She added: “Thanks to pressure from Labour councillors and MPs, Amey has increased the number of pothole repair gangs from 4 to 10, and are prioritising the most dangerous potholes and the most used roads.

“But there's much more that needs doing, and I will be doing everything I can to make sure our roads are repaired efficiently and to a high standard.”

Ms Tidball said she raised these roads with Mr Milner after complaints from constituents:

  • Station Road (A6135), in Chapeltown
  • Hollow Gate, Wortley Road and Thompson Hill in High Green
  • The section of Manchester Road (B6088) from Stocksbridge to Deepcar
  • Carr Road in Deepcar
  • the junction of Monteney Crescent and Wordsworth Avenue in Ecclesfield
  • Woodhead Road between Wortley and Grenoside
  • Junction of Langsett Road North and Main Road
  • Junction of Glen Howe Park and Storth Lane (A6102), in Wharncliffe Side.

She added: “I have been promised updates on these roads by Amey, and will share progress with constituents who have been in touch as soon as I receive them.”
