Sheffield's 25 worst hotspots for rats revealed as thousands of complaints made across city

Nearly 2,000 complaints of rats across the city over 12 months

Sheffield’s worst hotspot streets for rats have been revealed.

Freedom of Information Act figures requested by The Star show that during 2025, the city saw 1,935 complaints about the rodents, with one street alone responsible for 81 of those.

The issue of rats has hit the headlines in The Star in recent months.

In October, a Shiregreen resident, Dave Roebuck, aged 53 said that he felt there was a growing rat problem, which had ad left him unable to enjoy his garden - or even invite his grandchildren over.

He said at the time: “Even in the daytime you see them, rats just jump out of the dustbin.”

He described rodents tunnelling under his shed, leaving him worried it could collapse.

The housing association Sanctuary, said at the time it was aware of wider concerns in the local area about the issue and had employed a specialist contractor to investigate and recommend the best actions to take.

And in March, a Sheffield resident described moving into a hotel to avoid the rats in his block of council flats in Woodhouse.

Sheffield Council’s repairs service was tasked with carrying out works to resolve the issue.

However the figure reported for 2025 was lower than the previous year.

In total, the council logged 2,543 incidents - reports of rats and treatments - for the calendar year of 2024.
