There have been 14 incidents recorded up to March this year

Last year, South Yorkshire recorded its highest ranking for regional chimney fires in more than a decade, with 25 incidents reported.

There have been 14 incidents recorded up to March this year.

Chris Tyler, Group Manager, Community Safety Team at South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "To help reduce the risk of a chimney fire in your home, ensure your chimney is swept regularly by a registered chimney sweep.”

The fire service says some people burn unsuitable items, including nappies.
