British Transport Police, the organisation responsible for polcing the railways, sent cars to the railway station next to the shopping centre, and trains were delayed over reports of trespassers on the line.

This morning, the force confirmed why they were at the scene.

BTP said: “We were called at around 6.40pm yesterday (September 2) to reports of a trespasser on the tracks at Meadowhall railway station.

“Officers responded and searched the area but no one was found.”
