The tiger remained in the enclosure following the incident and police say there is no wider risk to the public. Following the incident, Yorkshire Wildlife Park was evacuated and officers remain on scene carrying out enquiries.

The spokesperson said: “At 1.35pm today (Saturday 10 October) we received reports of a man entering a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

“The tiger has subsequently attacked the man and this has resulted in serious injury.”

In a shocking video circulating online a young male can be seen on the grass inside the enclosure with the big cat circling and grabbing him and shaking him around.

The helpless males cries “no, no” as horrified onlookers say “Jesus Christ” and a woman can be heard saying “I tried to stop him”.

Multiple witnesses say an “agitated” male was seen to jump into the enclosure and was grabbed by one of the cats before “five shots” of what some say was a “gas canister” into the cage.
