The picture and video, taken this morning, show that emergency vehicles remain in the area, as the operation continues.

A group of volunteers had earlier assembled nearby to try to start a public search for the 11-year-old.

Dozens of people turned out after a request from the boy’s friends and loved ones, meeting outside the George and Dragon pub at 9am.

However police have urged the public not to run their own search, because they are concerned that if any of the volunteers ran into trouble, emergency services would have to break off their own search to assist.

The youngster was last seen entering the water of the River Don in Mexborough, at 8pm on Saturday.

Police remained by the River Don, off Ferryboat Lane, last night (May 31, 2026) after search efforts since 4am, and restarted their search again at first light today.

A major search operation began just after 8pm on Saturday following reports that the missing boy had entered the river but was not seen emerging.

Doncaster Response Team Inspector Neil Pryce said: "We know, from witnesses and items left on the riverbank, where the boy entered the water.

“Utilising specialist knowledge and skills, a coordinated multi-agency operation is underway and we are doing everything we can to find this young man. “
