South Yorkshire Police said they were called to reports of a collision involving a bus and a pedestrian on Commercial Street, in the city centre at 5.20pm.

They told The Star: “Officers attended alongside colleagues from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, and a road closure was put in place from the Park Square roundabout.

“A 37-year-old woman was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.”

They added that the driver of the bus had remained at the scene and has been assisting their enquiries.

The road was closed for several hours after the incident, with all street which had been affected re-opened before 9pm on Wednesday.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is being asked to call 101 or pass it on online.

Officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone who has relevant dash cam or CCTV footage, and ask anyone who contacts them to quote incident number 832 of July 8 2026 when they get in touch.

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service said last night that a number of ambulance resources, including two ambulances, an air ambulance, a specialist paramedic (critical care) and a doctor, were dispatched to the scene and one patient conveyed by road to Northern General Hospital.

The Commercial Street incident happened less than an hour after an 88-year-old pedestrian had been injured in a collision with a car on High Street, near the Cathedral team stop, which had also led to the road being cordoned off.
