Chaos in Sheffield city centre with reports of two simultaneous serious collisions just 150m apart
One reportedly involves a young pedestrian and a bus, the second possibly involving a car near a tram stop
Sheffield city centre is at a standstill this evening following reports of two serious, simultaneous collisions just 150 metres apart.

High Street is shut today (July 8) with photos from the scene showing ambulances near the bus stop opposite the Cathedral tram stop.
However, a second emergency scene is also active at the junction of Fitzalan Square and Commercial Street, near Haymarket.
The Star understands the two emergency scenes relate to separate, serious collisions.
It is not yet confirmed if anyone was serious injured in either incident, or if anyone has been arrested.
However, an air ambulance was pictured arriving at the Fitzalan Square incident at around 5.30pm.
South Yorkshire Police has been asked to clarify.
Here’s what we know so far.

Witnesses told The Star they believe a woman was in a collision with a car.
It is not confirmed if anyone was injured or arrested, but a witness claims police have raised a cordon, and that they saw blood stains on the road.
At least two police cars, a first responder’s car and an ambulance were pictured at the scene.
A police spokesperson said: “A road closure is in place on High Street in Sheffield city centre due to a road traffic collision.
“Emergency services are at the scene. Please avoid the area and plan an alternative route where possible.”
Fitzalan Square incident

While police and paramedics were dealing with the scene at Cathedral, a second collision reportedly took place at the junction of Fitzalan Square and Commercial Street at around 5.10pm, around 150 metres down High Street towards Ponds Forge.
It is understood a pedestrian - reportedly a child - was in a collision with a bus.
An eyewitness told The Star: “Two women sprang into action immediately without thought to help the child. They were heroes in that moment.
“We were told there was already an ambulance and police up at Fargate [the Cathedral incident].”
A police spokesperson said: “Please be aware Commercial Street in Sheffield city centre is currently closed due to reports of a road traffic collision.
“Please avoid the area and plan an alternative route if possible.”

Commercial Street is closed with a police van blocking access from the Park Square Roundabout.
A large number of emergency vehicles, as well as buses that cannot get out of the cordon, are at the junction of Fitzalan Square and Commercial Street.
