Everything we know as man who suffered serious injuries in collision with bus expected to survive
Police have described the man’s injuries as “life-changing”
A man rushed to hospital with what were thought to be life-threatening injuries after a collision with a bus on the edge of Sheffield city centre is expected to survive, police have revealed.
Buses were diverted for a number of hours on Tuesday morning (September 29) after emergency services rushed to Wicker - a major route connecting Sheffield city centre and Burngreave - shortly after 9.30am.

It is reported that a pedestrian and bus were involved in a collision, with the man taken to hospital what were originally described as “life-threatening injuries.”
First Bus have said that they are “assisting the police with their enquiries” as they describe safety as an “absolute priority.”
A spokesperson added: “We are aware of an incident that took place on Wicker this morning involving a pedestrian and one of our buses.”
"We understand the pedestrian came into contact with the front of the bus when stepping off the pavement and our driver immediately called the emergency services."
"The safety of our customers, colleagues and other road users is always our absolute priority, and we are assisting the police with their enquiries.”

A total of two ambulances ended up attending after the collision with a spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance service going on to say: “ We received an emergency call at 9.32am this morning to report a collision between a bus and a pedestrian on Wicker in Sheffield.
“Two ambulances and a team leader were dispatched to the scene and one patient was conveyed to hospital.”
Pictures from the scene showed a number of police cars blocking the road while buses were trapped within the middle of the cordon.
The stretch of Wicker, between the junction with Lady’s Bridge and Derek Dooley Way, features a bus gate designed to separate buses, taxis and bicycles from the rest of the traffic flow.
Despite initial fears that the collision would result in a fatality, police have since confirmed that the injuries are thought to be “life-changing.”
No arrests have been made at this time.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson added: “At 9.36am today we were made aware by the ambulance service of a road traffic collision involving a bus and a pedestrian, on the Wicker in Sheffield.
“The pedestrian, a man, has been taken to hospital with injuries which were initially thought to be life-threatening, but are now thought to be life-changing.
“The Wicker was closed while emergency services conduct their work, but has since reopened.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
