A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “At 5.17am today (Sunday 20 September) we were called to reports of a man refusing to leave when instructed by staff at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

“It is further reported that the man threatened to cause damage before climbing to the roof of the building.

“Officers are currently in attendance and are working to bring the man to safety.”

A spokesperson for Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals Trust has shared details of the alternative entrances patients and visitors should use, while the incident is ongoing.

They said: “Due to an ongoing incident, the usual entrances to the Emergency Department and Outpatients are temporarily closed. All hospital services are operating as usual.

“If you need to attend either department:

“Enter the hospital site via Gate 1, by the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

“Use the entrance between the Research and Park Hill Hospital.

“Follow the signs along the corridor.

“Drop-offs for the Emergency Department can be reached via Gate 1 and the same entrance.

“Colleagues will be on hand to signpost and help people reach the right department.

“Patients and visitors attending other areas should use their usual entrances.”
