Emergency services are warning people to avoid the area, amid concerns over three blazes in Sheffield and Rotherham this afternoon.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service initially issued a warning over a blaze between Oughtibridge and Grenoside, and has now warned of blazes elsewhere.

The service said in a statement: “We're getting lots of 999 calls about a fire on Jawbone Hill / Oughtibridge Lane. We know about the incident and have for fire engines in attendance. Please avoid the area. “

They they added: “We are also getting lots of 999 calls for fires at Grenoside Woods; Stand Hill Park at Rawmarsh.

“Please be reassured that we know about these incidents and have fire engines in attendance. “

It comes as the service warns of the risks posed by the current try conditions.

They stated: “The conditions across South Yorkshire remain incredibly dry. Please, do not burn waste in these conditions. Store it, take it to the tip or pay for it to be disposed of responsibly.”
