Driver unharmed after gun is fired at taxi in Sheffield street

A Sheffield taxi driver whose car was shot at in a city street escaped unharmed, it has been revealed.

The Star has discovered that the driver pulled up in Margate Drive, Pitsmoor, at 9.30pm yesterday for a pre-booked fare.

As his passenger attempted to get into the taxi a gun was fired at the car.

The driver and passenger both fled and it is believed that more shots were then fired at the taxi, with the driver’s side window smashed in the gun attack.

Nobody is believed to have been injured in the incident.

The driver, who works for City Taxis, is now said to be considering leaving the profession.

A spokesman for the firm said: “He is very shaken up and considering leaving taxis after this.

“We will support him to get back on the road to make a living if that is what he chooses.

“However isolated this may be, nobody should be going to work worrying that they are going to get shot at.”

A police cordon remains in place in Margate Drive while enquiries into the shooting continue.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of firearm offences.
