Darren Graham Tinkler, aged 37, of Woodlands Terrace, Edlington, carried out the assaults after going round to see his children, heard Doncaster magistrates.

Now he has been jailed for 24 weeks over the incident

Tinkler had previously pleaded not guilty to two charges of common assault and one of £300 worth of criminal damage to a door, and was in custody awaiting trial.

But he changed his pleas to guilty for all three offences, which relate to an incident in Douglas Road on March 19 this year.

Prosecuting, Justin Bullas, said the matter involved Tinkler’s ex wife, with whom he has seven children, and his new partner.

He said: “There have been difficulties before and Mr Tinkler was in drink and went to the property to talk to Mrs Tinkler, there was a sustained assault on her, despite one of the children being there.

“In attendance also was Mr Tinkler’s current partner who also made a comment and suffered at the hands of the defendant.”

Injuries included a lump to the head, bruising, scratches and a nose bleed.

Representing Tinkler, Mr Richard Haigh said: “He is 37-years-old now and when you see his record it looks like an unattractive document with 83 endorsements on it, a lot for dishonesty, 51 for theft.

“Until he was 31 he was working and had jobs as a chef and a lorry driver and was in a long term relationship for 21 years and had seven children. There was nothing on his record for violence until 2014.

“Domestic violence is something he has never been involved in. He started mixing with the wrong crowd and started taking drugs and his record then turned ugly and he has had a succession of prison sentences, the last one in October, which resulted in 16 weeks, all this drove an inevitable wedge between him and his wife.

“When he came out of prison he was clean of Class A drugs and remains so. On this particular day he went round to see his children, that was probably ill advised, he had too much to drink and an argument developed quickly. It was completely unacceptable and he totally accepts that.

“He is coherent, he is articulate and he is a very capable artist. He has got the wit and the understanding that there’s only him that can help himself.”

Tinkler was jailed for 12 weeks for each assault to run consecutively and four weeks concurrent for the criminal damage. He must pay £80 compensation for the door. He was given credit for his guilty plea.
