Darren Ferguson's revealing answer to '˜what have you learned since taking over at Doncaster Rovers?'

The Scot’s tenure began in sensational fashion as Rovers climbed out of the bottom four and up to 11th in League One.

But a cataclysmic collapse since the turn of the year, which saw Ferguson’s men go 17 games without a win, has left Doncaster scrapping to avoid a return to the fourth tier of English football.

Ferguson was asked after last weekend’s impressive win over Coventry City what he had learned since taking the job.

And his response was an interesting one, as he accepted that the win-less run indicated ‘more than just one or two problems’ and also appeared to criticise the club’s recruitment prior to his arrival.

Ferguson also talked about ‘getting the right players in’ before stopping short - hinting that a summer of significant change could be on the way should he remain at the helm.

“I’ve learned a lot,” Ferguson said.

“You seem to learn a lot more when things aren’t going well.

“I know that this group are a really good team when they’ve got confidence and belief.

“When they lose that confidence and belief, they find it difficult. You have to try and get that into them.

“To go 17 games without getting a win, there’s more than just one or two problems within that.

“But they’re still fighting.

“I’ve learned a lot. One thing I’ve learned is that I feel if I get the right players in [...] I think the recruitment’s been good, whereas in the past it hasn’t.”
