Khan's latest apparent strategy to unnerve Brook came when he insisted that both boxers must weigh up to 147lbs one day before their potential bout and no more than 157lbs on fight night.

But that sent health-warning shots across boxing - a sport which is trying to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries connected to under-hydrated boxers.

"It'a dangerous sport enough, as it is. It's the only sport where somebody can be legally killed" the Sheffield man told The Star.

"It will be hard for both of us to get down to 147, so why put a further restriction in it - something that obviously wouldn't be good for the body? That's far too dangerous. Once we've made weight, we've made weight, that should be it

"What we want is a nice healthy fight, with no complications, and one that the boxing public will never forget."

Brook thinks Khan has been trying to play playing mind games with him.

"He moves the goal-posts every so often and contradicts himself. He's just trying to put me off.

"Wherever I go boxing fans are asking me when I am going to knock Khan out?

"I just have to tell them it's not down to me.

"Everybody knows I want it. We are both with Matchroom (promoters) so what's the problem? It's so simple to make.

"But will it ever happen? That's the question. Ask him - I am willing and ready."

Brook says he has potential options if the long-awaited Khan show falls through '“ saying Keith Thurman, Manny Pacquiao and re-matches with Shawn Porter or Errol Spence Jr would interest him.
