Youths hurl bricks at police, firefighters and emergency services as they tackled building fire

Bricks and stones were hurled at police officers and firefighters as they dealt with an arson attack in South Yorkshire.

They came under attack outside Maltby Miners Welfare on Wednesday, April 28.

An investigation has been launched to identify those involved.

South Yorkshire Police said: “Police were called at 6pm that evening with reports that the building was on fire.

“While there, and dealing with the fire, we and fire crews had stones and bricks thrown at us by youths.

“We are now working to identify those involved.”

The force added: “If you have any information, CCTV footage or were driving through the area with dash cam at around this time last Wednesday, please get in touch.”

Over recent weeks there have been reports of youths pelting stones at staff at a Covid testing station in

Maltby.

The testing station, on the car park of Maltby Leisure Centre, has had to close early on occasions because of the attacks.
