Woodthorpe murder: Floral tributes left outside house where 23-year-old lost his life

Police were called by paramedics to Woodthorpe Road at around 8pm on Friday, March 8 to reports a man had suffered multiple stab wounds.

Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later and a murder investigation was launched.

Today, floral tributes were left outside the house where it is believed the attack took place.

The man has not yet been formally identified but his family are being supported by specialist officers and a post mortem is due to take place later today.

On Saturday, people in the area spoke of their shock, while hundreds of tributes to the victim where posted on social media.

And earlier today, senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Scott Harrison said the murder had ‘sent shockwaves’ throughout the entire community.

He said: “I’d like to reassure the public, particularly those living in the Woodthorpe area, that our enquiries are progressing at speed.

“My appeal for information is two-fold, it begins with those at the centre of this incident, the people who inflicted this attack.

“If you are reading this, do what is right and speak to us, consider the impact this man’s death has had on his family and the community.

“I also want to hear from anyone who has any information that might help us piece together what happened on Friday evening.

“Were you on Woodthorpe Road or in the surrounding area between 7.30pm and 8.30pm, did you hear or see anything that was unusual?

“Did you capture any people or vehicles on your CCTV cameras or dash cams? Even something that seems insignificant or routine could be vital to our investigation.”

DI Harrison said there would be a 'significant number of officers’ in the area over the coming days, who would be conducting house to house enquiries and searches.
