Woman was 'mum with disabled child', say shocked residents as police launch murder investigation

Horrified Manor residents have spoken of their shock after a ‘mum with a disabled child’ was killed in a suspected murder in the area.

The woman was found dead in a property at Castlebeck Drive after the emergency services were called at around 6.10am this morning (Wednesday, November 18).

The 45-year-old’s death has now sparked a murder probe- the third to be launched in Sheffield since Saturday.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed that a 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.

Speaking to Star reporter Dan Hayes at the scene, residents said they were ‘really shocked’ as the man who has been arrested in connection with the incident ‘seems like a lovely guy’.

They also told him the woman who died has children, one of whom is disabled and uses a wheelchair.

It is understood the woman had been ill and rarely left the house.

Although a police car remains at the property where she was was found, the street is ‘quiet’ this afternoon with an eerie feeling.

A post-mortem examination to determine cause of death is expected to be held later today.

It comes after a 28-year-old man was stabbed to death in the Sharrow area in the early hours of Sunday (November 15).

Just under 24 hours later, a 20-year-old man died after being found with ‘multiple gunshot wounds’ in Burngreave.
