Woman rushed to Sheffield hospital with brain injuries after hit-and-run

Two arrests have been made by South Yorkshire Police after a woman was seriously injured in a hit-and-run.

The 76-year-old was struck by a reversing tipper truck on Littlemoor Lane, Balby, at 9.10am yesterday.

South Yorkshire Police said a white Ford Transit tipper struck the woman whilst it was reversing.

It is alleged the driver and passenger got out of the vehicle and saw the woman on the ground before leaving the scene.

Officers later recovered a vehicle in the Doncaster and arrested two men.

A 38-year-old was arrested on suspicion of the theft of motor vehicle, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at a collision scene.

He was released under investigation.

A 56-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and remains in police custody.

The hit-and-run victim is being treated at Hallamshire Hospital for serious injuries to her brain and pelvis.
