West Street closed in Sheffield as firefighters tackle flat blaze

West Street in Sheffield city centre was closed off this afternoon while firefighters dealt with a flat blaze.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the blaze was reported at 12.24pm at and its height there were three appliances in attendance.

Tram services were suspended and buses were diverted away from the scene of the blaze, with fire engines blocking the street.

No other details, including the cause of the fire, have yet been given.

It is understood that nobody had to be rescued from the burning flat.
