South Yorkshire Police said neighbourhood officers in Nether Edge have been joined by specialist teams from across the force to conduct high visibility patrols and ‘disrupt suspected criminal activity’ following the gun attacks.

Armed response and roads policing officers have been drafted in along with the Serious Violent Crime Taskforce and members of Operation Fortify, which was set up to tackle serious violent and organised criminality, including gangs.

Since Friday, the teams have made four arrests, seized two weapons, stopped 51 vehicles, conducted 58 ‘stop and accounts’ on the streets.

Five vehicles and a quantity of class A drugs have been seized.

Detectives are treating last week’s shootings as ‘targeted’ attacks.

Neighbourhood Inspector Louise Kent said: “We understand how concerning incidents like these can be for local residents who simply wish to go about their daily lives.

“That is why we have arranged for my officers to be joined by specialist teams from across the force to provide a high-visibility, enhanced response to offer reassurance and support people in the area.

“If you have any concerns you'd like to raise, please do not hesitate to speak to one of our officers on patrol. We will listen to you and we will take appropriate action.”
