Officers said they have spent so much time on Emerson Crescent, Parson Cross, over recent weeks, they decided to move into an empty house on the street.

They have since been released under investigation as enquiries continue.

Drug dealing was raised as an issue of concern by residents.

Officers have also visited homes on the street as part of Operation Shield – a burglary initiative where police use a special substance to security code valuables to deter thieves from targeting those properties.

Each batch of Smart Water used is linked to one particular property, meaning anyone found in possession of stolen goods marked up with it can be linked to specific crimes.

Last weekend a closure order was issued for a house on Emerson Crescent described as a ‘hot spot for anti-social and criminal activity’.

The order, which lasts for three months, bans anyone other than the tenant of the property from being there.

South Yorkshire Police said: “The Parson Cross Team have been spending more time on Emerson Crescent recently – so we thought we’d move in.

“In the coming days and weeks, you will see more of the team as we use a property on the Crescent.

“This will help increase our interaction with the individual and surrounding community and help us to get to know some of you a little better.

“We will also be more accessible to local residents who can speak to us directly as we come and go from the Crescent.

“It will also ensure officers are more visible in the area tackling local issues and working with local people on issues of concern to them.”
