A cyclist captured the incident when he turned round after hearing tyres screeching behind him as he queued at a set of traffic lights in Cundy Cross, Barnsley.

His head cam captured a car wheel spinning as it left the queue before it mounted a pavement and was then driven at speed past the traffic lights, which were on red, before joining another road.

The cyclist who captured the incident described the driving as ‘ludicrous’ and said pedestrians could easily have been killed.

“I was just at the traffic lights as I commuted to work on my pushbike when I heard screeching behind me, I turned round and a car was wheel spinning as it pulled out from the queue we were in,” he said.

“Whoever it was must have been fed up of waiting at the lights, but what they did was ludicrous and just 10 seconds after they drove over the pavement a pedestrian came along. It was really dangerous.”

He said: “A lot of traffic lights have cameras on them so with my footage and what else can be found, it may be possible to trace the driver.”
