They congregated together outside the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield as part of a national wave of appreciation for the NHS and care workers looking after the most vulnerable in society during the coronavirus crisis.

Sheffield stood united tonight in its support of the NHS, carers and key workers as the UK battles Covid-19.

Residents beeped their car horns, clapped and banged pans on their doorsteps on streets across the city to make a noise for those battling to keep the vulnerable alive.

In a Facebook post, South Yorkshire Polices said the force had joined together with the county’s fire and ambulance services ‘to show their appreciation for our fabulous NHS this evening’.

The force added: “Thank you, we support you. Clap For Our Carers. Clap for NHS.”
