South Yorkshire Police said: “Sheffield City council have confirmed that they are not carrying out any work of this nature and are currently only carrying out emergency work.

“Please be vigilant if someone attends your address asking to carry out work and always ask for identification.

“Do not pay any money up front and if they are purporting to carrying out work on behalf of a company please advise them that you will check directly with the company that this is genuine work.”
