Vile mum threatened to ‘flatten’ Sheffield asthma sufferer who coughed in supermarket

A ‘nasty’ mum threatened to attack a Sheffield woman who suffers from bad asthma – when she coughed in a supermarket.

Pat Duncan was shopping in Iceland at the city’s Parkway Central Retail Park on Saturday afternoon when she covered her mouth for a ‘little cough’.

A woman who was with her young children then directed a foul-mouthed tirade at Pat, who has had asthma for ten years and often has coughing fits.

The 59-year-old told The Star: “She threatened to ‘flatten’ me for fear of spreading coronavirus and she said she was going to punch my eyes out – among lots of other foul-mouthed things.

“That woman wanted to beat me up good style.

“What a nasty, vile entity she is.

“She was completely out of control.

“It was a vile incident.

“It was so bad that a worker there had to take me away to safety in one of the staff rooms.”

Pat said she tried to report the incident to police on Saturday night but couldn’t get through to officers.

She added: “I’m OK now but it’s left me feeling shaken.

“I didn’t deserve that – I have bad asthma, not coronavirus.

“It’s made me fearful of going out again.”

Pat’s daughter Claire Johnson added: “It’s impossible for mum to control this asthma cough.

“In the past people would offer her a sweet or a glass of water.

“I think people need to realise that people cough for many different reasons – it’s not just coronavirus – and abusing somebody like that is bang out of order.”
