Video and photos show police in negotiation with man after 'woman and child locked inside' Sheffield house

Officers were called to Weakland Drive, in Birley, just after 12.15pm today, Thursday, January 30, following a report that a woman and her child had been locked inside a property on the street.

The woman and child are now out of the house and police said no one had been injured, but the man remains inside nearly six hours later as specialist officers attempt to negotiate with him.

A number of police cars are still at the scene, where at the height of the incident witnesses reported seeing armed officers, eight police cars, a fire engine and two riot vans.

A police spokeswoman said shortly before 6pm: “Specialist officers remain at the scene in negotiations with a man who remains inside the property.”

Police said the report had come from a third party.
