Armed police on Sheffield street after man ‘locks woman and child inside house’

Armed police flooded a street in Sheffield after a woman and her child were locked inside a house.

Officers were called to Weakland Drive, in Birley, today, Thursday, January 30, just after 12.15pm and there is still a huge police presence as negotiations continue, though police said the woman and child were now safely out of the house.

A police spokeswoman said: “Just after 12.15pm this afternoon (Thursday 30 January), police were called to a property in Weakland Drive, Sheffield, following a third party report that a woman and her child had been locked inside the address.

“The woman and the child are now out of the house and are with officers. No one has been injured.

“Specialist officers remain at the scene in negotiations with a man who remains inside the property.”

One man reported seeing eight police cars, a fire engine and two riot vans at the scene.
