Travellers who set up camp on Sheffield football pitches move on

Travellers who set up an illegal site in Sheffield have now left their makeshift site.

Earlier in the week the group had vowed to moved on by Friday and by Saturday they had gone.

The camp was set up on a field opposite Goals football centre on Norfolk Park Road, Norfolk Park, for a number of days.

The travellers had pitched up close to, but not on, football fields used by Pro Socker Pumas Junior Football Club.

Reports of the illegal site were made to both Sheffield Council and South Yorkshire Police and the travellers were spoken to.

On Wednesday, the council said: “We have visited the site to speak to the occupants and provide advice and support in relation to waste and health and safety.

“We have been assured that this is temporary and all those currently on site will vacate by Friday 30 April.

“We will make a further visit on Thursday to make sure they still intend to move on as planned.”
