‘This is not a one off’: Gang of youths start ‘incredibly dangerous’ fire near Sheffield school

Youths have been condemned by the police for starting an ‘incredibly dangerous’ fire near to a Sheffield school.

South Yorkshire Police said officers were deployed to the fields behind Outwood Academy, Stradbroke, following reports of youths setting fire to grassland yesterday.

The flames had been extinguished when officers arrived but the force said the fire was ‘not a one off’.

It said: “The Woodhouse and Westfield team was called to the fields behind Outwood Academy, near Richmond Park, following a report of youths setting fire to the grassland.

“Fortunately, the fire was out when officers arrived on scene. Unfortunately, this is not a one off.

“This is incredibly dangerous, not to mention damaging to the local wildlife and general environment.

“If you have any information relating to the culprits, please send us a private message or you can make an official report via 101 or on the South Yorkshire Police website. In the meantime, we will be actively patrolling the area.”
