A civilian at South Yorkshire Police has been disciplined for posing as an off-duty cop, pulling a driver over and issuing a warning for dangerous driving.

The member of staff stopped a car in Scunthorpe last year, posed as an off-duty officer and issued a warning for dangerous driving.

Details of the case have been released by South Yorkshire Police after a misconduct hearing, which resulted in the employee receiving an official warning.

The force said: “An allegation was made that a member of staff had produced a badge/ card and instructed a driver to pull over, before advising the driver that they were an off-duty police officer and gave them a warning for dangerous driving.

“This was a member of police staff, not a police officer, which is why it ended up with misconduct proceedings.“It was a male member of staff involved and the incident happened in Scunthorpe.”
