Man arrested on suspicion of murder after woman’s body found in underpass

A murder probe has been launched by South Yorkshire Police following the discovery of a woman’s body in an underpass.

The woman, who is in her 30s but has not yet been formally identified, was found in cardiac arrest in an underpass in the Drummond Street area of Rotherham at 7.55pm yesterday.

She was taken to hospital but could not be saved and her death is being treated as suspicious.

A forensic post mortem examination is due to take place over the next few days.

A 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and robbery and remains in police custody.

Detectives investigating the incident said a cordon in place around the underpass is expected to remain there for most of the day.

Witnesses or anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 775 of February 5.
