South Yorkshire cop accused of breaching order to associate with individual & accompany them to Crown Court
Police Constable Sarah Bromfield is set to face a misconduct hearing next week
A South Yorkshire Police officer accused of breaching a “lawful order” to associate with an individual and accompany them to a Crown Court is to go before an accelerated misconduct hearing.
The allegation has been made against serving Police Constable Sarah Bromfield, with the conduct alleged to have taken place in March 2026, a year after the order was made.

She is set to face a South Yorkshire Police misconduct hearing, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday (July 23, 2026).
Sharing details of the allegation and associated misconduct proceedings, a South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “After being notified of, and acknowledging, a lawful order in March 2025 not to associate with an individual, it is alleged that in March 2026 the officer was in company with said individual at Manchester Crown Court.
“This is a breach of the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of discreditable conduct, honesty and integrity (integrity only) and orders and instructions.
“The matters set out above are breaches of the Standards which are so serious as to justify dismissal and therefore constitute gross misconduct.”
In May 2025, the government brought in new rules which mean a presumption of dismissal has been created for proven gross misconduct, which means “there will be a clear expectation that officers will be sacked unless there are exceptional circumstances.”
Detailing the “purpose” of public misconduct hearings, South Yorkshire Police’s website states it is to “show” their “disciplinary system is open and transparent” and to demonstrate that the force does “hold officers who breach the standards of professional behaviour, or those where misconduct is found proven, accountable for their actions.”
Hearings should be heard by a panel of three people that should be chaired by an independent legally qualified person chosen from a pool held by the local policing body, further guidance states.
