South Yorkshire Police issue £10,000 Covid fine to host of illegal lockdown party

The host of an illegal lockdown party has been fined £10,000 by South Yorkshire Police.

Officers busted a party at a terraced house on Clifton Avenue, Herringthorpe, at around 5.30pm on Friday, February 12.

They found partygoers had travelled to the gathering from different parts of the country.

Officers said they dispersed a group of over 30 people.

The host was fined £10,000 and 10 other fixed penalty notices were also issued.

Lockdown legislation states that anyone at an illegal gathering of 15 people or more is automatically fined £800.

South Yorkshire Police said: “Officers attended the scene and dispersed a gathering of more than 30 people, some of whom had travelled from different parts of the country.

“Police issued a £10,000 fine to the occupant of the address as well as 10 further fixed penalty notices to those in attendance.”
