Richard Dyson, aged 58, disappeared in November 2019 and a missing person inquiry was launched.

But earlier this month, South Yorkshire Police announced that despite a body not having been found, detectives are now treating the disappearance as murder.

Four men, aged 43, 51, 67 and 68, were arrested on suspicion of murder and later bailed after police questioning as the police investigation continues.

Mr Dyson was last seen by his daughter Bethany, 20, from Catcliffe, Rotherham, on Friday, November 15, 2019.

He was reported missing 10 days later after he failed to turn up for their next arranged meeting.

Enquiries established that Mr Dyson was last seen on Sunday, November 17 walking along the A6135 Sheffield Road in Hoyland at around 11pm.

Detectives working on the investigation believe members of the local community hold information which could help crack the case and ease Bethany’s suffering.

Detective Inspector Neil Coop, leading the police probe, said: “I am convinced there are members of the local community who hold information that may be the key to us fully understanding what has happened to Richard.

“At the centre of all of this is Richard’s 20-year-old daughter. She has experienced trauma none of us should go through since she last saw her dad in November 2019.

“My team and I are fully committed to finding the answers she desperately needs, allowing her to move on with her life in some way.

“I am asking again today; if you know anything that will help us piece together what has happened to Richard, please do come forward and tell us what you know. It doesn’t matter how much time has passed - we still want to hear from you.”

Regular police searches are being carried out by South Yorkshire Police for Mr Dyson's remains.

Anyone with information about the disappearance should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 459 of November 25, 2019.

Crimestoppers can be contacted, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
