Six arrested after man pinned in chokehold before being kicked, punched and robbed

The suspects were arrested over the robbery of a 41-year-old man who was targeted just after 1pm on Friday, May 8 as he walked down an alleyway in Barnsley town centre.
He was assaulted, hit in the face and pulled to the ground, before his mobile phone and cigarettes were taken.

Hide AdFive men, aged 34, 28, 27, 25 and 19, and a 21-year-old woman, were initially arrested on suspicion of robbery and released under investigation.
Five of the six have been re-arrested today on suspicion of robbery and remain in police custody.
South Yorkshire Police said: “We are aware that CCTV footage of the incident is circulating on social media and are urging everyone to be cautious about what they post and share in relation to this footage, so as not to compromise the ongoing investigation.”
