In one part of the video a frightened woman can be heard saying ‘they threw it at us’.

The incident is one of over 80 firework-related issues reported in Sheffield over recent days.

In another incident, a large group of youths hurled fireworks at each other on Devonshire Green.

One woman contacted the police yesterday morning to report issues with fireworks being set off at Park Hill on Friday night.

In a tweet to the force, she said: “There was a gang of lads setting very loud fireworks off last night round Park Hill Flats from before 10 till gone 1.15am.

“It was very intimidating.”

Ahead of this weekend, Chief Superintendent Sarah Poolman said: “Fireworks are dangerous, they pose a risk to people’s safety and their property, as well as causing distress to many people living nearby.

“This sort of behaviour is not only unacceptable and dangerous, these youths are also wasting valuable resources from police and the fire service.

“We have a limited amount of resources to respond to incidents. By helping us teach children that this is not acceptable, you will help us respond to those most in need and danger.”

Earlier in the week, Station Manager Steve Jones, of South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, said: “It’s really concerning to hear that our police colleagues are already starting to get reports of children carrying fireworks around.

“Fireworks can be extremely dangerous and, whilst nobody thinks it will ever happen to them, what seems like a bit of fun can quickly turn into a life-changing injury.

“We’d really urge parents to take the time to speak to their kids about the dangers of playing with fire, and fireworks, and make sure they know where they are – especially during the coming weeks.”
