Sheffield teenager was delivering pizza when thugs stole his car and ran him over

A delivery driver seriously injured in a robbery when thieves stole his car and ran him over was delivering takeaway pizzas at the time.

The 19-year-old was delivering on White Lane, Gleadless, at around 6.15pm on Tuesday when two men targeted his car – a Vauxhall Corsa.

During an altercation between the delivery driver and thieves, the driver was struck by his car and seriously injured.

He was taken to hospital, where he remains today in a stable condition.

Detectives investigating the robbery are treating it as an isolated incident.

No arrests have yet been made and the stolen car has not yet been traced.

The force said: “We don’t believe this to be a pre-planned attack or part of a series of targeted attacks on delivery drivers, it was an opportunistic robbery.”

Detective Inspector Ben Wood said: “We are appealing for anyone who might have witnessed this incident to contact us.

“Did you see what happened or do you have information about where the stolen vehicle might be?

“Our enquiries are very much continuing.”

A pizza delivery driver was killed in Sheffield in 2013 when he was stabbed in his heart in a robbery.

Thavisha Lakindu Peiris, 25, who had just graduated from Sheffield Hallam University, was attacked in his car in Southey Crescent, Southey, after being knifed 14 times by Shamraze Khan and Kasim Ahmed.

Ahmed was jailed for life and ordered to serve a minimum of 23 years after admitting murder.

Khan, who denied the offence, was found guilty and ordered to serve a minimum of 24 years.

In 2009, Sheffield takeaway owner Safrajur Jahangir, who ran the Spice Hut on Middlewood Road, Hillsborough, was shot dead as he pulled up outside a house to deliver an order placed by a bogus caller.

The 23-year-old was shot in his head at point blank range as he pulled up on Scraith Wood Drive, Shirecliffe.

Detectives believe it was a pre-planned attack and that he was shot by a contract killer.

Six men were prosecuted but their trial collapsed after it emerged that South Yorkshire Police failed to disclose all the evidence available to the defence teams.
