Police officers flooded Arbourthorne last night amid reports of gunfire on the city estate.

A large cordon was put in place on Errington Avenue, which remained under police guard last night.

There have been a number of shootings in and around Arbourthorne over recent months, including one in which a 12-year-old boy was injured.

The youngster was shot on Northern Avenue in January, with detectives believing he was an innocent bystander caught up in a feud between rival gangs and that he was mistakenly shot while the intended target was in the area.

The incident led to a major crackdown on organised crime in the area and an increased police presence to reassure residents of their safety and to deter criminals.

South Yorkshire Police has been approached for details on last night’s incident.
