Greasbro Road, Tinsley, sealed off amid reports of shooting in Sheffield street after residents hear bangs
A road in Sheffield is sealed off this morning and under police guard amid reports of a shooting.
Earlier today police issued an “avoid the area” warning following the closure of Greasbro Road in Tinsley at its junction with Shepcote Lane.

South Yorkshire Police said officers were dealing with a “police incident” and urged people to “avoid the area and plan an alternative route if possible”.
It has since emerged that residents in the street heard bangs last night, which some initially thought were fireworks but which they now believe were gunshots.

One resident told The Star he heard one bang but others had heard as many as four.
He said a number of police evidential markers can be seen in the street this morning.
The resident said Greasbro Road is normally quiet so last night’s incident was “out of the norm”.

He said the incident happened at around 11pm last night.
The resident saw ambulances and paramedics’ cars on the street and one casualty receiving emergency care.
He added: “We all heard shots but we thought they were fireworks initially.
“But the street has been cordoned off ever since and with the ambulances and paramedics cars being here, it seems that it was a shooting although the police have not told us that yet.
“They are guarding the road and you can see evidential markers this morning.
South Yorkshire Police said: “Please be aware that a road closure is in place on Greasbro Road, Tinsley, at the junction of Shepcote Lane due to a police incident.
“We are advising people to avoid the area and plan an alternative route if possible. Thank you.”
