Sheffield murders: Who were the victims, how were they killed, who has been arrested so far and are their deaths linked?

Detectives are working around the clock on two Sheffield murders after one man was shot and another was stabbed in the space of 24 hours.

Who were the victims?

Kamran Khan was 28 years old and died after he was knifed in his chest.

Ramey Ghalib was 20 years old and died of gunshot wounds.

When and where were they killed?

Kamran was found seriously injured on the ground in Club Garden Road, Highfield, at around 2.15am on Sunday, November 15.

Ramey was shot in a property on Grimesthorpe Road South, Burngreave, at around 1am yesterday.

Did the men die instantly?

Both men were taken to hospital but despite efforts to save were both pronounced dead a short time after arriving at A&E at the Northern General Hospital.

Have any arrests been made?

A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Kamran and remains in police custody this afternoon.

No arrests have yet been made over Ramey’s death.

Are the deaths linked?

South Yorkshire Police said detectives are not linking the two murders.

Were both deaths the result of targeted attacks?

Detectives have described Kamran’s death as an ‘isolated’ incident and Ramey’s as a ‘targeted’ attack.

What has the reaction been in the local communities?

Sheffield councillor Jim Steinke said the Highfield community was ‘appalled’ at Kamran’s death and supportive of the police probe into the death.

Community group Mums United has renewed calls for CCTV cameras on the Lansdowne estate, where Kamran was killed.

What have friends said about the murder victims?

Posting on Facebook, Khalid Deyaa said Kamran, who was a dad, ‘will be missed’.

Sarah Robertson, who used to work with him, said he was always polite.

Yasir Rashid said he was a ‘good guy’.

Many tributes have been paid to Ramey and an online fundraising page has been set up to pay for a water well in a community in need.

Cristiano Alshaby described him as a ‘great lad, who is loved by everyone’ and said he was a Lisa Dernie ‘lovely lad’.

Ramey has been described as ‘always happy’ and ‘always making others smile’.
