Patricia Grainger was 25 years old when her body was found on August 10, 1997.

The mum-of-one, who had learning difficulties, had been dumped under a discarded base at a brook behind homes on Deerlands Avenue, Parson Cross.

Patricia, from nearby Buchanan Road, was semi-naked and had been stabbed.

Her son, Danny, was just five years old when she was killed.

He has devoted the last 12 years to fighting for justice for his mum after setting up his website www.whokilledmymum.com in 2008 just before the 11th anniversary of the death.

A £10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer is available via Crimestoppers.

Arrests have been made over the years but nobody has ever been prosecuted.

Patricia’s son Danny, 28, is calling for an independent police review of the case in the hope that new lines of enquiry may be identified.

He said: “We just want closure and to know that everything possible has been done to find who did this to my mum.

“It is always on my mind that whoever did this could still be out there and whether everything possible has been done to find that person.

“If there could be an independent review of the case by another force, you never know what might happen – fresh pairs of eyes may find something new. I would also like forensic samples to be looked at again.”

He added: “I have lived with this for most of my life, the feeling never leaves you."

“I feel like this reward is the last chance we have of getting the information needed to find who did this, unless a new review is carried out.”

South Yorkshire Police said: “The death of Mrs Grainger remains under continual review by our major incident review team, as do all other undetected homicide investigations.

“We take any new information, intelligence or lines of enquiry seriously and allocate resources to look into them accordingly.”
