They then drove off from the scene after the attack.

South Yorkshire Police said: “We received a number of reports around 3pm of an incident on Vincent Road, Sheffield.

“It was reported that three men with baseball bats caused damage to a vehicle, believed to be a taxi parked on the road.

"They then left the area in a vehicle towards Abbeydale Road.

“An investigation is in the early stages.

“Anybody with information should contact the police on 101.”

Yesterday a large police cordon was put in place on Wath Road, Wake Road and Emily Road, Nether Edge, after a car was found damaged.

There were fears a gun may have been used because of a number of shootings in the area, but no evidence of that was found.
